TROOP 45 POLICIES
- ATTENDANCE
- Troop 45 meets weekly at Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall from 7 PM until 8:30 PM.
- Parents/guardians are asked to drop their boys off on time, and to pick them up promptly at 8:30.
- Parents/guardians should be advised that if boys arrive early or stay late, adult supervision may not be available at times other than the stated meeting time and that the BSA, troop, or troop sponsor assume no responsibility for the boys at times other that the stated meeting times.
- Once a boy arrives at the meeting, he should not leave the meeting early for any reason unless an adult troop leader is informed and gives permission.
- UNIFORMS
- Boys are expected to be in proper uniform as determined by the Patrol Leader Council. Currently, our uniform standards are the following.
Regular unit meeting (fall through spring) Full Uniform Regular unit meeting (summer months) Troop T shirt Troop camping trip Uniform shirt Board of review for rank advancement Full Uniform Camporee, summer camp, or other council sponsored event Full uniform Troop Court of Honor Full uniform Troop uniform inspection Full uniform - DUES
- Yearly dues of $25.00 are payable at the time of troop recharter in April. The yearly fee will be prorated monthly for any new members joining at other times during the year.
- DRUGS/ALCOHOL/WEAPONS
- It is the policy of Troop 45 that zero tolerance applies to the use of drugs/alcohol or the bringing of any weapons on any scouting activity. Any boys found in possession of or using illegal drugs/alcohol or carrying a weapon will be referred immediately to their parents and/or law enforcement officers. Weapons include but are not limited to firearms, large hunting knives, switch-blade knives, razors, martial arts devices, and any other device designed or intended to inflict harm.
- Personal pocket knives and troop owned equipment such as saws, axes, and hatchets are permitted, but troop leadership may prohibit their use by any members acting irresponsibly.
- ADVANCEMENT
- Boys are generally expected to advance at least one rank each year. This allows them every opportunity to achieve their Eagle rank before leaving Scouting.
- TRAVEL
- When the Troop travels on any Scouting activity, the Troop will travel together as a unit. All boys will travel with the Troop, no boys will be allowed to travel separately unless traveling with a parent or leader over the age of 21.
- All boys will be expected to have on file with the Troop a medical permission form (Attachment 1). This form will be reviewed at least annually at recharter time.
- FUND-RAISERS
- The leadership of Troop 45 believes that each member should actively participate in raising operating funds for the troop. Troop 45 participates in a trash pick-up along Westinghouse Blvd. four times each year. This project is a major fund-raiser for the Troop and needs strong support from the boys and parents. It is expected that the boys participate in at least two trash pick-ups per year.
- Members who do not participate in troop fund raisers will be expected to pay additional fees for Scout trips and recharter expenses.
- SERVICE PROJECTS
- Throughout the year, boys will be expected to help with various service projects. Some of these are to support boys working on an Eagle Project, others are simply to provide service to our community. Boys should attempt to participate in as many of these service projects as possible.
- CAMPING TRIPS AND OUTINGS
- Troop 45 plans and conducts several camping and other outdoor activities for our members throughout the year. All scouts are encouraged to participate in as many of these activities as possible since these activities are where skills taught in Scouting are put into practice.
- Participation in camping trips and outings are restricted to troop youth and adult members, prospective youth members, and parents of youth members. However, from time to time, the troop will designate certain activities as "family outings" and will invite parents and siblings to attend. For family outings, the following rules will apply.
- The BSA, Troop 45, and the troop sponsor will assume no responsibility or liability for non-scout participants on a troop family outing.
- A parent or guardian of the same gender must accompany any sibling or other non-scout minor on a troop family outing.
